Sow outdoors in fall. Start indoors in spring by placing seeds into a bag of moistened seed starting mix or wet paper towel and place it in the refrigerator for 4-8 weeks, then sow indoors. Gently press seeds into soil, but do not cover as they require light to germinate.
The blossoms of the Coreopsis can be used to make yellow and orange dye.
Remove withered flowers to encourage continual bloom until the first frost.
Nutlets are mature and ready for collection about four weeks after the flowers wither. Watch the inner series of bracts; when they begin to darken, it is time to collect. Remove chaff and store in containers. Stores for at least three years.
