(Heliopsis helianthoides) Perennial. Native. Missouri-grown. Ox-Eye Sunflower is an upright native perennial related to the sunflowers and is sometimes called False Sunflower. This multi-branched plant blooms early and attracts many pollinators and songbirds. Branches will be loaded with single and double bright yellow flowers from July until frost.

Ox Eye sunflower is a short lived perennial that is very pest and disease resistant and makes a great cutflower.

Easy to grow. Enjoys full morning sun and partial afternoon shade. Tolerates a wide range of soils and soil moisture levels. Excellent choice for wildflower, native, and pollinator gardens as well as naturalized prairie areas.

Planting Instructions:
Sow outside 2-4 weeks before average last frost or as late as 2 months before first fall frost. Start inside 6-8 weeks before average last frost. Gently press seeds into soil, but do not cover as they require light to germinate.

Additional Tips:
Ox Eye Sunflower makes outstanding cut flowers. Removing faded flowers regularly will greatly extend the blooming season.

Excellent for problem clay soils. Thrives in clay where other flowers refuse to grow.

May require staking, particularly when grown in very rich soil.

It is recommended to divided Heliopsis plants in early spring every 4 - 5 years.
