(Borago officinalis) Annual. An exquisite, easy to grow, versatile herb. Borage, which originated in Aleppo, has bright blue, star-shaped flowers that bloom all summer.

Borage is an absolute favorite of honeybees. If you’re one of the many people interested in bee-friendly gardening and helping the honeybee population, this is a perfect plant to add.

It’s also an edible flower with cucumber flavored leaves and blooms. Delicious when added to salads or refreshing summer drinks. The blossoms make beautiful garnishes or can be candied.

Borage has also been used medicinally for its diuretic, expectorant and anti-inflammatory properties. It has been used to reduce fevers and as a tonic for the adrenal glands during times of stress.
