(Allium schoenoprasum) Perennial. Chives have a mild onion flavor and are very easy to grow. Their versatility in the kitchen makes them essential for any herb garden. Use them to add flavor to fish, top a baked potato, add the greens and flowers to salads, or use the edible flowers to infuse vinegar for a special condiment.
Chives grow well in containers or indoors for year-round harvest.
Chives also help to deter garden pests while their large, lavender blossoms attract bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects.
