(Melissa officinalis) Perennial. A highly aromatic culinary and medicinal herb with a wonderful lemon fragrance and flavor. Fresh leaves are excellent for tea, in salads, or in cooking to impart a lemony flavor.

Lemon balm is said to have a calming effect and has been used medicinally for indigestion, headache and insomnia. Great variety for containers.

Planting Instructions:
Sow outside 1-2 weeks after average last frost or up to 2 months before the first fall frost. Start indoors 6-8 weeks before average last frost. To avoid spreading, plant in containers.

Additional Tips:
Lemon balm can grow in most types of soil, but well-drained clay or sandy loam is best.

Extensive use as an essential oil for cleaning and medicinal purposes. Essential oils from this plant contain the chemicals terpene, tannins and eugenol, which contributes to the oils calming, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-spasmodic effects.

Harvest young leaves at any time to use fresh or dry.
