Start indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost date. Sow outside 4-6 weeks before average last frost, or as soon as the soil can be worked. For fall harvest, transplant 8 weeks before first frost. Successive sowings every 2-3 weeks will provide continuous harvesting.
Spinach is a cool weather crop that does well in spring or fall. For spring plantings, we recommend starting indoors so they can be transplanted and enjoyed before the heat of the summer.
Spinach prefers evenly moist soil with light, regular waterings.
Spinach overwinters well with mulch or a light frost blanket. Leaves become sweeter with frost.
Pick individual leaves from the outer edges as needed, or cut the whole plant 1" above the ground, and new leaves will be produced.
